TNB Janamanjung Sdn. Bhd. (TNBJ) was incorporated in August 1996 to spearhead the design, development and management of Stesen Janakuasa Sultan Azlan Shah, Manjung (SJSAS) which was to be coal-fired, in line with national strategy to reduce heavy dependence on natural gas as fuel source for power generation.

Uniquely located on a 325 hectare wholly man-made island off the Lekir coast in Manjung, Perak, the Station was established to meet the anticipated growth in electricity demand for the new millennium. Operating on the basis of an Independent Power Producer (IPP) with the most competitive Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) tariff, TNBJ is a shining example of forward planning, corporate commitment and national resourcefulness. From the laying of the first foundation stone, through construction up until the fully-functional plant, the Station went through its various challenges of development in a steadfast and single-minded manner. It brought together highly competent professionals with a common aim: to build an environmentally friendly coal-fired power station which will be managed at world-class standards.

Furthermore, in line with TNBJ’s motto – “Technology In Harmony With Nature” – Stesen Janakuasa Sultan Azlan Shah, Manjung is further equipped with a smart weather-based coal dust suppression system for the coal stock yard management, representing the first of its kind in the country.
