Apart from the technical and commercial considerations that were taken into account during the development of the plant, TNBJ has devoted considerable attention and resources to mitigate and minimize possible impacts that a coal-fired power station may have on the immediate and surrounding environment.
The use of clean coal combustion technology, along with utilization low sulphur coal grades, further contribute to minimize the environmental impact. Pulverized coal firing results in maximum combustion efficiency, while fuel gas desulphurization (FGD) and electrostatic precipitators (ESP) combine to bring emission standards up to globally respectable standards. Further mitigation come from effective wastewater treatment system, while impermeable geo membranes serve to minimize impact in the event of ash disposal leachate.
GF1 3x700MW plants (units M1, M2 & M3) have been installed with low NOx burner, flue gas desulphurization (FGD), electrostatic precipitator (ESP) to meet the plant design limit flue gas SO2 750 mg/Nm3, NOx 650 mg/Nm3, carbon monoxide 200 mg/Nm3, Dust 50 mg/Nm3 and opacity 20%. These plants also have been designed based on the Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 1978.
Meanwhile, GF2 1x1000MW (unit M4) plant has been installed with low NOx burner, flue gas desulphurization (FGD), fabric filter (FF) to meet the plant design limit and Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 2014 flue gas limit of SO2 500 mg/Nm3, NOx 500 mg/Nm3, carbon monoxide 200 mg/Nm3, dust 50 mg/Nm3 and opacity 20%.
TNBJ has also embarked on a program of constant environmental monitoring, maintain air and water quality within the requirements of the Department of Environment.
In view of the emerging and intense focus on environmental protection, compliance and enforcement, TNBJ Management has decided to implement Environmental Management System (EMS) based on ISO14001:2015 Standard to providing sustainable development, management and maintenance of all environmental practices and performance in our activities, processes and services.
